Growing Orchids

In ecology news, British orchids make a comeback. The resurgence of the delicate flowers is attributed to the growing trend towards wild flower meadows, such as that planted by His Royal Highness Prince Charles at Highgrove. In addition, incentives to encourage farmers to protect the countryside and conservation efforts by organizations such as Kew Gardens have also helped. Now, growing numbers of marsh orchids are being seen near the sea, butterfly orchids are being found in meadows, and early purple orchids are visible on the edge of roadsides. What wonderful news! We thank and commend all those helping to preserve these spectacular specimens of Britain’s unique heritage. May we see more such success stories on a vibrant and sustainable eco-sphere.
